Hi Everyone!

Thanks for checking in on this project; we hope you are well during this unusual time of sequestration.

Naturally we have had to postpone Tom’s memorial service indefinitely. However it’s been a beautiful spring, and we know that he would have loved to be outside, running and otherwise being active.

Thus, in his honor, we invite you to join us for the Run for Tom on his birthday—Sunday, June 14.

Here’s how it will work:

1 You go for a run (or walk) wherever you are on Sunday, June 14, whenever you like, following COVID19 restrictions in your location.

2 You report your miles (to the nearest tenth) to us on this page.

3 We have a tree planted for every mile as Tom’s honorary birthday gift.

Are you in? In the form below, let us know your name (or initials, or favorite number) and where you’ll be running, if you like—but no advance commitment necessary.

How far should you run? As far as feels comfortable and appropriate to you. Any distance counts!

Not sure how long your route is? Tom liked to use Miler Meter.

Setting out in wonky weather? Tom followed the what-to-wear recommendations at Runner’s World.

How about a playlist? Tom always ran without a device so he could think, but let us know what you think he’d add to a workout playlist (form below), and we’ll compile it here!

It’s a birthday…where's the cake? Here’s the recipe for the carrot cake Tom often requested, by Ina Garten. (We preferred a classic cream-cheese frosting though.) Feel like popsicles instead? Peach melba popsicles were a family favorite last summer.

What’s the Book of Tom? Are you still taking entries? We’re still compiling a Tom Tome for Nathaniel and Theodore, to read both now and as they mature into adulthood. We hope that each of you will consider contributing to the project, which seeks to answer questions such as, What kind of a guy was Tom? How did he make a difference in the world? and What will you remember about Tom Nevins? Entries of any length, brief or expansive, would be most welcome; fill out the form here, or email them to Stephanie, or mail to their home.

Are there other memorial projects? Yes, thanks for asking.
